Mini donut franchise cost & investment

Prospects often search for a single “mini donut franchise cost” number. In practice, published figures split into an upfront franchise fee, a broader total investment range, and ongoing royalties, marketing contributions, and tech or POS fees. This guide explains those layers using the same public data that powers our comparison table.

Franchise fee vs total investment

The franchise fee is usually the payment for brand rights, training access, and operating systems. It is only one line in the startup budget.

Total investment (often Item 7 in an FDD) folds in the franchise fee plus build-out or vehicle costs, equipment, opening inventory, deposits, training travel, and working capital. Two brands with similar franchise fees can differ widely in total investment if one requires a full storefront and the other ships a turnkey trailer.

Treat marketing blurbs that say “starting under $X” as invitations to verify — not as substitutes for the current FDD schedule.

Ongoing royalties, marketing, and tech

After opening, most franchise models charge a royalty — either a percent of sales or a flat monthly amount — plus a marketing or brand fund and, increasingly, tech or POS fees. Flat monthly royalties can be easier to model early; percent royalties scale with volume. Neither structure is inherently better without knowing expected sales and support levels.

When a public source does not publish a fee, we mark it TBD rather than inventing a number. Ask the franchisor for the current schedule before you build a pro forma.

Published ranges by brand

Figures below are compiled as of September 2026 from public FDD summaries and franchisor materials. They are not offers to sell a franchise. Licensing-only concepts may not publish classic franchise fees at all.

How to use these numbers

  1. Compare franchise fee and total investment together — not in isolation.
  2. Match format to capital: storefront build-outs and full retail often sit higher than mobile or tent packages.
  3. Model royalty and marketing as monthly cash obligations, not just percentages on a slide.
  4. Request the current FDD and have advisors review Item 5, Item 7, and Item 19 (if provided) before you commit.
